Guidelines


 
ELIGIBILITY
SHIPC is open to pianists of any nationality, aged 18-32 inclusive at the time of the commencement of the competition.
Entry to the SHIPC will not be open to previous First Prize winners of a SHIPC.
A maximum of thirty (30) pianists will be chosen to compete in the SHIPC by a Selection Committee on the basis of received Applications.
   
APPLICATION
Applications to the SHIPC must consist of the following items:
   
1 a completed and signed Application Form including the applicant’s Repertoire and Curriculum Vitae; and
2

a CD recording (the quality of the recording is important, such that the quality of the applicant’s playing can be appropriately evaluated) certified by a current teacher that it is an unedited recording of the applicant playing (no other works should be included on the CD) comprising:
• one prelude by Debussy or one nocturne by Chopin; and
• the first movement of a sonata by Haydn or Mozart or Beethoven; and
• one etude by Chopin; and
• one etude by Liszt or Rachmaninoff or Scriabin; and

a non-refundable Application Fee of $100.00 (Australian dollars) paid by transfer to SHIPC’s bank account:

The applicant’s name should be referenced in the transfer and a copy of the transfer submitted with the Application Form; and

4 a copy of document(s) certifying date and place of birth, nationality and residence of the applicant; and
5 a biography of the applicant of approximately 200 words in English prose in Word document form on a separate CD that can be used by the organisers of SHIPC for publicity purposes. Present and past teachers are to be named; and
6 two printed high quality, black-and-white, untinted, head-and-shoulders photographs of the applicant at least 13cm x 18cm and no larger than 18cm x 22cm to be used by the organisers of SHIPC for publicity purposes. The photographs can also be submitted on the biographical CD but two printed photographs as above must also be supplied.
   
Applications (all above items of which the CDs must have affixed to them the applicant’s name and date of birth and the detailed content) must be received at the SHIPC Office by 1 May 2009. The organisers of SHIPC do not assume responsibility for applications lost or delayed in the mail.
Applicants should retain copies of all application items sent to the SHIPC Office.
Application items will not be returned and remain the property of the organisers of SHIPC.
Applicants who have been chosen to compete in the 2009 SHIPC will be notified by 1 June 2009.
