Count Down to Southern Highlands International Piano Competition
Competitors to perform in Springett’s Arcade

The countdown is on until the Southern Highland’s first International Piano Competition. Locals and visitors alike will be treated to a free preview performance by all twenty competitors in Springett’s Arcade on Saturday September 29th from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

The competition’s Artistic Director, Grant Foster said that this will provide an opportunity for people to meet and listen to performances by word class musicians from all over the world. Pianists from Australia, France, Taiwan, Indonesia, Columbia, Georgia, Poland, China, Canada, USA and the Ukraine will compete for prizes valued at a total of $45,000 during the competition.

“It is very rare that regional areas in Australia are provided an opportunity to experience classical music performed by musicians of the calibre of these young pianists. The Southern Highlands International Piano Competition is the only International competition outside of Sydney. Sydney only happens once every four years while the SHIPC is biannual,” said Grant.

“We’re all working very hard and are very excited about the competitor’s arrival into the Highlands. We are very much looking forward to competition getting underway,” he said.

The competition will be launched with a Launch Recital Evening at Chevalier College Performing Arts Centre featuring Mira Yetvitch, Dr Marilyn Meier and Grant Foster who are also judges for the competition.

Heats will be held Sunday 30th September and Monday 1st October, Semi-Finals will be held Tuesday 2nd October and Wednesday 3rd October at Chevalier College Performing Arts Centre, Burradoo

Hosted by the ABC’s Damien Beaumont, The Finals and Award evening will feature the Wollongong Symphony Orchestra and will be held at Clubbe Hall, Frensham, Mittagong on Saturday October 6th

In its inaugural year, The Southern Highlands International Piano competition is Australia’s only International Piano competition held outside of Sydney
