Southern Highlands International Piano Competition
Announces Pru Goward as Patron
The Southern Highlands International Piano competition today announced Pru Goward, local member for Goulburn as its official Patron.
Pru Goward is a strong supporter of the Southern Highland’s rich musical culture and believes that an event such as the International Piano Competition will provide the region with a platform to promote itself as the perfect setting for world class music events.
“I am proud to be associated with the competition. The opportunity to experience some of the best young pianists in the world in the Southern Highlands during Tulip Time will really be amazing,” said Pru Goward.
“The event will give the region another boost to its important tourism industry, whilst also providing local residents and our surrounding areas with ready access to professional and memorable classical piano performances,” she added.
According to Malcolm Yell, Chairman, SHIPC, the board is very appreciative of Pru Goward’s support.
“Pru Goward has provided us with tremendous support and we are delighted with her association with the competition,” said Malcolm.
The competition will see some of the world’s brightest pianists converge in the Highlands to compete for prize money worth at least $45,000. Competitors will be coming from France, Taiwan, Poland, Indonesia, Columbia, Canada, China, Japan, USA, the Ukraine, as well as Australian Competitors from Sydney and Melbourne.
The principal benefactor to the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition (SHIPC), local businessman and philanthropist, Ted Springett OAM, has long desired an opportunity for young pianists from Australia and around the world to gather in the Southern Highlands to further their performance experience and associate with fellow musicians of first-class calibre. This competition will provide that opportunity.
The Southern Highlands of NSW is rich in musical culture and offers a wide range of artistic pursuits. It is an ideal setting for the first International Piano Competition to be staged in a regional area of Australia and will provide a competition which will promote classical pianists in the 18 to 32 age group.
The competition will begin on Sept 29th with the Judges Launch Recital evening when the Highlands will be treated to performance from Mira Yevtich, Marilyn Meier and Grant Foster.
The semi finals will be held at Chevalier College in Burradoo from Sept 30th and the final will be held at Clubbe Hall, Frensham, Mittagong on Sunday, October 6th.
Tickets for all performances are available from the Visitor’s Information centre, Mittagong ph: 13000 657 559.
